If you’re planning on getting a credit card, are you apprehensive because you are worried you will be approved or rejected? Here are a few words of advice to ease your worries.

Make sure you are aware of your credit score. You can get a copy and check if all the data and charges on your report are all correct. If it is precise but you become aware that you have a low credit score, it is time to start a make over on your credit.
Be an on time payer. It is best to improve your credit score because every business credit card application requires you to have a good credit score. After you receive your statement of account, make it a point to settle all your bills and submit your payments on time. One should not miss or delay on your payment because you aim to improve your score.

It is also a sound idea to keep your old credit cards. Although it is not active and you want to close them because of their high cost and interest, it is best to keep them because they play a significant role in your credit card history. Closing down your old credit cards would be like deleting your previous parts of your credit history. So keep them but you don’t have to use them.

If you can, it is best to focus on repaying all your balances with all your creditors in full. In a way, you are pushing a boost to your credit score.

If you have a credit limit of ,000, an ideal consumption of your credit limit would amount to only ,000. That is only 40% of the actual credit limit. Going beyond 40% o

Preventing Credit Card Application Scams- Answered

Filling up the online credit card application form is the first baby step, as well as a giant one, towards getting a credit card. If you take the online route, you save yourself days of waiting, as well as tons of effort. However, this alone is not the main reason why you should opt for the online mode.

The credit card industry is a fiercely competitive one. With about a dozen card issuing company, tens and thousands of affiliate sellers, hundreds of card options and millions of existing as well as probable customers- the industry is as competitive as it can possibly get. Another feature that makes this industry a tough one is the fact that the customers are informed, knowledgeable and have a rational thinking process.

Today, credit card industry is a matured one, with most of the customers being repeat ones. Given all these factors, card issuing companies are going all out to win over prospective customers. One of the most commonly used marketing strategies to win over customers is to introduce card offers for niche segments, catering to a specific segment of customers.

Examples of niche marketing will be cards for students, cards for buying gas, air tickets, groceries etc. Special cards were also introduced aimed at people with various statures, like cards for people with bad or no credit, cards for students, for tenants etc. Given such a plethora of offers, picking up the best card is often a tedious job – a job that requires gathering information about all offers, comparing and evaluating them, and then deciding on the best fit offer.

Online credit card application forms are generally accompanied by a goldmine of information. As a rational customer, it is your duty to settle on a given offer only after you have thoroughly evaluated and compared other competitive offers. And, the World Wide Web is the best possible platform where you can source and analyze all the information you want.

However, while scouting for information on the Internet, chances are that you will stumble across affiliate sites. Affiliate sites are intermediary marketing firms that act as an interface between the card issuing companies and the prospective customer. These sites act as a great source of information, and a one stop solution for all your card needs.

However, it is to be clearly understood that these sites are just intermediaries and in no way are they allowed to ask for any confidential information like SSN or any other such details. If you come across an intermediary file that is asking for these details from you, understand that they are malicious in nature and take no time in leaving that site.

The Internet is a tool that has changed our life beyond imagination. And it has changed both for worse and for better. While intermediary sites have our life easier, malicious sites have succeeded time and again in scamming people. However, it will be better idea to apply common security measures rather than shunning the net. In a nutshell, embrace technology and use the online credit card application form when needed.

Credit Card Applications: Is It Safe To Apply Online?

Are you wanting to apply for a new credit card but feeling hesitant to perform the application online? If so, you need not be concerned. Advances in the technology of secure e-commerce have made online applications literally safer than filling out a paper application and mailing it through the US Postal Service. Here’s why.

SSL Technology

First, banking institutions that offer online credit card applications use the most up-to-date technology to ensure that their web sites are protected against intrusion and data theft. This technology is known as SSL, which stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a transmission protocol that “encrypts” any data sent between the bank and your computer, such as all the personal information you need to fill out when applying.

Encryption

What exactly is encryption? It is a sophisticated mathematical process that disguises data by altering the bits of information in ways that are undecipherable to others. You have probably done encryption in your childhood days when you sent messages to friends in school using a secret language such as reversing the alphabet, so that A meant Z, and Z meant A. That early game was actually a form of encryption.

In the early days of the Internet, encryption used 40-bits, which meant that a character of data could be transformed into another character in any one of 2 to the 40th power ways, which is approximately 1 trillion ways. But as large as that number is, computer security experts realized that people, including criminals, who had access to very powerful computers could crack 40-bit encryption in a short period of time, ranging from a few days to a few seconds depending on the power of their computers.

Therefore, in the late 1990s, a much more powerful type of encryption was introduced using 128 bits. This means that each character of data can be altered in any of 2 to the 128th power ways, a code which represents an astronomical number of possible variations that would take on the order of 20,000 years to break using today’s fastest computers. The use of 128-bit encryption has thus completely altered the safety of data.

Two Encryption Keys Required

Furthermore, today’s encryption methods use what is called the “two-key” algorithm whereby the sending computer and the receiving computer use both a “public” key and a “private” key to encrypt and then decrypt any data exchanged between them. The process is complex to explain, but suffice it to say that the two-key approach makes it impossible for all intents and purposes for an outside party such as a criminal to capture and interpret any data transmitted between two computers over an Internet site using SSL technology – because the criminals will not have both keys.

Online Credit Card Applications – No Safer Method

In short, SSL technology virtually guarantees that if you fill out a credit card application over the Internet using a bank’s secure application page, all your personal information can never be stolen or broken into.

Compare this to a paper application which you send via the US Post Office. Think about how many mailboxes are broken into each year and how many pieces of mail are somehow lost – and you will now realize that applying over the Internet is actually the most secure method you can find.

So if you want or need a new credit card in order to expand your credit capabilities or to get bonus points or travel rewards, the best thing to do is to go to one of the web sites that allows you to compare offers, then click through to the secure web site for the bank you choose to fill out their online application. You will also benefit from this because your application will be processed within minutes and you can often get an immediate approval rather than waiting weeks as you do when you mail in a paper application.

All in all, rest assured that computer security experts are working hard to protect consumers from crime and identity theft as Internet banking, e-commerce, and credit card payments are increasingly processed online.

Credit Card Applications: What the Fine Print Really Means

When you apply for a credit card, reading through all of the small print on the application can be a drag. And with everything so fast-paced, do you really have time for all of that? Most people will respond with a “no.” They’ll simply fill out the application and hope for the best.

Unfortunately, not understanding the fine print can bring trouble your way. You might get hit with high fees or interest rates that you weren’t expecting. But by taking the time to look over the fine print, you can potentially save yourself hundreds of dollars in the future. Here are a few things to look for as you read the terms and conditions listed with the credit card:

Rewards with Conditions

Rewards cards are popular these days, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you apply. Some of them come with a higher interest rate, and others include restrictions on the rewards you can receive. You also may find that you’ll need to pay an annual fee with the card. So look over the details and make sure that you can really benefit from this type of card before sending in an application.

APR Details

Many credit cards come with 0% APR (annual percentage rate) period. During this time, no interest is charged to your account. When that time period comes to an end, however, a regular APR sets in. You’ll want to know what this rate is before you apply.

You’ll also want to be aware of other changes regarding the APR. If the APR is variable, the company is allowed to change it at any time. If the interest rate is fixed, it is less likely to change. The company, however, still reserves the right to change it when they want to – they just need to let you know about it before they make the change.

Some cards will increase the interest rate if you miss a payment. Also, certain companies will charge a different APR, depending on whether you are making a purchase, transferring a balance, or taking out a cash advance. Sound confusing? It can be if you don’t know about the details. Take the time to read through the APR notes; they can really help you in the long run.

Extra Fees

Some of the fees included in a card are laid out very clearly, but others are not. Before you send in a credit card application, check to see if it charges an annual fee. Also look for the fees charged for late payments or over-the-limit fees. All of these could set you back if you’re not aware of them. If, on the other hand, you know about them, you’ll be able to avoid any unwanted fees.

In short, reading the fine print can be time-consuming, but it is well worth your time. If you find a term in the form that you do not understand, you can call the credit card company to ask about it before you apply. Understanding the fine print is key to a long, healthy relationship with your credit card.

Credit Card Application: What You Should Know

Applying for a credit card may be a stressful time for anyone if they don’t know what they’re doing. Knowing more about them and learning its process can make a big difference in making your application as stress-free and relatively painless as possible.

Here are some guidelines to help you make the process less stress-free.

First, be careful when choosing the right credit card for you. Those who make it a habit to apply to any company they come across with often run the risk of being declined, especially if they applied more than three times in a 30 day period. The best thing you should do is to do some planning before you make your choice.

Second, be honest when you are filling out your credit card application form. If you give out false information, the credit card company can charge you for providing false information.

Third, ask if they have annual fees. One thing you need to look out for when filling out the application forum is the annual fee box in the terms and conditions statement. Check to see if there are annual fees. Some companies don’t ask for one, and this is good for any credit holder to get.

Fourth, check how much the interest rate is. However, there are some cases where it is not important because you are going to pay the full balance every month. But still, don’t overlook this important detail when choosing your credit card.

By the way, it is important to remember that different interest rates apply to different borrowing means. Generally, those who get cash withdrawals on their credit cards will get a higher interest rate. Also, you will be charged interest rate on the spot.
So, if you plan to borrow money for a much lengthier period of time, it will be more effective to choose a loan over a credit card.

Fifth, check out the offers. What offers do the credit card companies make? There are countless times where you can get a credit card offering which offers 0% interest for six to fifteen months. Others also give cash back rewards programs.

Sixth, define the purpose of your card. Find the best one that matches your needs by following these guidelines:

1) You plan to use the card to make purchases, and you intend to pay them off fully every month.

The best card for this is the one with fringe benefits, such as loyalty points, rewards, and other back offers.

2) You want to use the card to make a major purchase, spreading all of your payments for several months.

The best thing is to juggle payments between different credit cards. Go for those with the low APR (Annual Percentage Rate).

3) You plan to use the card only for traveling abroad on in cases of emergency.

If this is the case, choose the ones with a lower credit limit and no annual fee. Also, make sure that your card is accepted in most countries.

4) You want to support a particular charity of your choice.

If you purchase charity cards, then there will a sum donated for every purchase you make without any additional cost on your part whatsoever.

Applying for a credit card application is easy if you follow the guidelines given here. Soon, you will enjoy the benefits and perks that come from owning a piece of plastic that has the power to give you what you want – anytime and anywhere.

Credit Card Applications – Getting Approved After Refusal

It can be disheartening when you apply for a credit card and get turned down. However, in the vast majority of cases, it really is not anything that you need to worry about. While there are some people out there who would be approved for virtually everything they could think of applying for, for the vast majority of us, applying for a credit card can take a little time and some trial and error.

Credit card providers generally have pretty strict criteria that they are looking for from applicants when they launch a new credit card. They will be targeting the card at a specific segment of the market and will have a credit score range that they are seeking from applicants. If you do not fall within this score range, you will not be in their target range and will be refused the card. But this does not mean that you will not be successful when you apply for another credit card that is targeting your section of the market. And it is important not to take the rejection to heart.

Determining Your Credit Score

You may feel that you are trustworthy and always pay your bills and that you should not be turned down for credit, but remember that credit approval is no longer a personal exercise but is by and large automated and subject to computer credit checks and the like. A computer will look at your credit score and give a yes or no answer, and no individual attention will be paid personally to your application at all. It is a necessary way of running the system for lenders who have literally thousands of clients and applications to manage as efficiently as possible.

The Next Step After Rejection

If you are refused for credit, then apply to a couple more companies. You should try not to rush the process and apply for one card at a time. You usually receive your answer within a couple of days. The reason for this is that if you apply for too much credit too quickly, it will show up on your credit report and may cause lenders to turn you down. So be patient and if possible, ask the lender why they have rejected you.

Patience is a Virtue in Credit Card Applications Too

The chances are you are simply applying for the wrong type of card, for example, if you are a student, you will really only be approved by companies that make a point of providing credit cards to students and most other will reject you as a matter of course. So by a little patience, and taking the time to make your application to a credit card company that targets the segment of the market that you fit into, you should be able to get your hands on a credit card before too long.

The 3 Advantages of Online Credit Card Application

Many people will head down to the local office of the banks or credit card companies when they want to apply for a credit card. If there is a long queue, they will have to wait in line for their turn to submit their applications. Alternatively, they can call up their customer service hotlines and request for an application form to be mail to their home addresses.

As more and more households have access to the Internet, these card issuers begin to offer online credit card applications. This method allows them reach a broader base of potential customers, especially the younger generation that is more computer savvy.

Online applications offer several advantages over the traditional way of applications. Here are three of them:

1. Convenience

This is probably the number one reason why online applications are preferred over the traditional ways. There is no need to travel to the bank and queue in long lines. Thus no extra time is wasted and there is no travel cost to deal with. All you need is a personal computer with Internet access.

2. Access to a wide range of credit information.

Traditionally, if you want to review credit cards from different card issuers, you have to visit each of their offices separately or call up different hotlines to request for their application form. With the Internet, you can do it with just a few clicks. There are many legitimate credit card directories on the Internet that offer you detail description for a wide selection of credit cards from different card issuers. Some of these online directories even offer free tips on credit management.

3. Shorter Turnaround Time

Since everything is computerized and automated, the processing of the application is usually much faster and more efficient. By simply clicking a button to bring up the application form, you can fill it up on your computer screen and then click another button to submit it. Unless there are issues with your credit history or errors on the form, you can expect to get your application approved in matter of days instead of weeks.

However, online security remains the primary concern for many Internet users. Contrary to belief, online application is actually very safe and secure. The card issuers spent huge amount of money each year to ensure that their computer system is secure and hack-proof.

To have a safer experience, you should only make your online application from your personal computer. Avoid public places such as an Internet cafe. In fact, you should not be doing any high security transaction from any computer located in public places.

Online application is safe and easy. Once you have experienced the convenience, it is unlikely you will return to the old ways of applying for a credit card.

Credit Card Applications FAQ

Lots of folks have questions about credit cards but may feel shy about asking for fear of being seen as not savvy. Here’s a list of frequently asked questions about applying for credit cards to bring you up to speed on what you need to know about the credit card application process.

Can I apply for a credit card?

In general, if you’re 18 years of age or older (the age limit may be lower in some states) and are a U.S. citizen, you have the legal right to apply for a credit card with any U.S. bank or financial institution.

Do I have to have a bank account to get a credit card?

In most cases, credit card companies won’t consider issuing credit to someone that doesn’t have at least one bank account in their own name.

Do I have to have a bank account with the bank that issues the credit card?

No – in most cases. As long as the credit card issuer can determine your credit worthiness, it doesn’t matter where your bank account is. There is one exception. If you apply for a secured credit card, you must keep a ‘security deposit’ of a certain amount in the institution chosen by the credit card issuer (usually their own bank).

Can I apply for more than one credit card at a time?

You can apply for as many credit cards as you want, but you should be aware that multiple credit card applications can affect your credit score negatively. You should shop around to find the best rate you can on a credit card, then apply for ONE credit card.

Do rejected applications hurt my credit score?

My favorite store just offered me 20% off anything I buy today if I fill out a credit card application right now. Even when I told the girl that I had bad credit and wouldn’t get approved, she said it didn’t matter. It doesn’t hurt anything to apply – is that true?

See above. Every time you fill out an application for a credit card, you’re giving the company permission to request a credit report from one of the credit reporting agencies. Those requests are kept on file on your record for anywhere from three to five years, and the number of requests are just one of the things that determine your credit score. If you’ve applied indiscriminately for any credit card offer you see, it could lower your credit score and make it more difficult to get a loan when you really need one.

What should I look for when filling out a credit card application?

Read all the fine print on the contract. If you’re filling out an application online, make sure you click on links to read the terms and conditions. If you’re not careful, you may end up signing an agreement to pay an application fee, a processing fee and/or an annual fee – which they’ll happily charge to your new credit card and start collecting interest on immediately.
